Wiring Changes???

Hey guys, I recently ran into a previous owner of my '65 chevy truck. He was telling me a little bit of the history of this truck and he told me that another owner had attempted to put a V8 in this truck and as far as I know it is an original 6 cylinder truck but he said that someone had tried putting a V8 in it and they couldn't get it running right or maybe not at all I'm not sure. I got to thinking about it and came up with the question if it is an original 6 cylinder truck and they couldn't get the V8 running, could it be because of the wiring? Am I going to have to change out the wiring to put a V8 in it? I've tried selling this truck but with no luck, so I've been thinking about putting it on the road so I can sell my 4x4 and use that money to finish restoring my Nova. Thanks in advance for your input. And by the way, in case anyone might be interested, my '65 is still listed for sale at mautofied.com until April 15. It is listed in the "project" category.

Re: Wiring Changes???

Wiring is the same, however it could be wrong now. Does it try and start? If it's turning over check for voltage at the coil with key on.

Re: Wiring Changes???

If he wasn't very experienced, he might have run into the HEI/points wiring issue -- the old points type "resistor" wire needs to be replaced with a full 12v wire.

Other than that, I can't think of any other wire running to the engine that would affect it's running. On these trucks it's temperature, spark, starter, generator.
