Clearence issues
If you have a NP205 in your 4x4, did you notice that it is very close or rubbing on your floorpan? Mine is rubbing on the floor by a little bit. The only thing I can think of is that by cab bushings are shot and it isn't clearing as good as it should be. I may to dent the cab a little to give the t-case wiggling room. Any input would help.

Re: Clearence issues
There isn't much external shift linkage for a SM465, or any linkage for that matter.
But yeah you're right, cab bushings would probably help oodles of stuff. Last edited by JAKES 68GMC; 04-02-2006 at 08:55 PM. |

Re: Clearence issues
i just replaced my cab mounts. Cab sits about an inch higher, no exaggeration. i still gotta crank em down tight, but ... i can't imagine it getting much lower with the anti-crumple bolt sleeves in there.

Re: Clearence issues
just a question: you have a high tranny hump or low hump? if it's welded/stamped in, it's probably a low hump...

Re: Clearence issues
With my understanding he has a high hump because its a 4x4. 2 wheel drive has the low humps. Also I think the high humps are bolted in? I know the low humps are molded in with the floor. Unless you got a new cab it should be a high hump. Sry not much help.

Re: Clearence issues
Yeah it's a bolt-in high hump. The t-case is rubbing right under where the tranny hump bolts in. Right on the back flange , going towards the rear of the truck. I think cab mounts would solve my troubles.

Re: Clearence issues
I would look at two things: Shorter tranny mount and new cab mounts. That's assuming you can find a shorter tranny mount. I think the 4x4 abd standard crossmembers are different also, I saw some pictures of both posted in here some time ago and the way they hung down didn't look the sam.e

Re: Clearence issues
With that NP205 case, did you get the crossmember and torque mount brackets from the donor? If you're using the old rockwell pieces, they may be incompatable with the np205 case, making it sit too high or at wrong angle.
My old GMC's cab mounts are noexistant and it doesn't rub, so even if your mounts gain you clearance, you still may have problems with driveline angles, etc. Just a thought.

Re: Clearence issues
The crossmember from the Rockwell worked fine on the 205, but the t-case just rubs a little bit on the pan, right on a high spot of the case. Not too much, just a little bit. Do the crossmembers have different angles depending on what t-case the truck has? I think cab mounts would give me all the clearence I need and then some.
It's not that big of a deal, anyways. I was just curious if anyone else had the same problem. |

Re: Clearence issues
If memory serves, they crossmembers are different between the 2 cases. PM Yukon Jack, he may know for sure. I hate to see you end up with cobbled mess if its a simple matter of using the correct crossmember. However, this is only a suspicion and I could be wrong, so get a second opinion, from someone who has done the swap.

Re: Clearence issues
My 700R4 was rubbing the front of my cab, I was going to put a high hump in it until I installed new bushings, no more rub. My cab was raised almost an 1" at the front. If the t-case mounts are correct, order a cab mount kit and be done with it
