Question Question About Blazer Tops

Borrowed this pic from Randy (Teeitup) over on the parts board, someone
else asked this same question and Randy answered it I think, I just want
to make sure because I am switching the tops on my two blazers and the
single wall top will be put on "GQ" so ? is are the caps the same for each
of the tops? or are they different like Randy said? and which one is which?

Re: Question About Blazer Tops

i think the differents caps are from different year blazers. I'm sure the smooth one are for 69-70.

Re: Question About Blazer Tops

I agree, I just popped two sets of these, one off of a set of 69 doors (smooth and like the ones on the left in the picture) and the ones on the right are just like the set I removed from my 72 doors.

Agreed. My 70 have smooth my 71 ridges. My 70 doesn't even have the drip edges on it. Never has had them on it

Re: Question About Blazer Tops

MOst of the ones i've personally seen had the grooves in them and most of the Blazers i've owned have been 71/72's. I'm sure they are NOT top specific.

Re: Question About Blazer Tops

I'm not sure on these, both sets came off 71-72 blazers, one was a double wall. But who knows they could of been changed out, or different doors put on it too. The smooth set if the first set I've ever came up with, most are the grooved ones. I've never had a 69-70 blazer to part out to check and see. It would make sense to me if they were 69 or 70.

Re: Question About Blazer Tops

Wasn't the drip rail a later addition to try and keep water running out of the door?

Do one style or the other work better for keeping water out?

Re: Question About Blazer Tops

well my brain come up with is

I'm sure will the flat piece it will/can create pockets between itself and the rubber, there are no precise machined parts. The grooves IMO on the other set are made to put pressure on the rubber so if water some how gets in between there it acts like a barrier with the rubber.

there use to be these plastic piece........maybe someone can post. but they screwed onto the top of the door or top windshield frame and they help channel water.

Re: Question About Blazer Tops

My '71 Blazer:
  • double wall top
  • smooth door caps (like those on left)
  • no drip edges or holes (I added them and significantly reduced leakage)

Re: Question About Blazer Tops

69 Double wall, no ridges. Matter of fact, only one door has a cap. The other is flush metal at the top Wonder if the door was replaced at some point....

Re: Question About Blazer Tops

this is a 73-75. Note there is no rear hatch as the glass rolls down into the tail-gate. It would have a track for the glass.
