79 Ford HP dana 60 front in a 72k5?

Anyone ever put hp 60 in front instead of a chevy 60? I already have a hp 60 and a 14 bolt to swap in my 72, which should I use?

Isn't the ford drop is on the other side?

Sounds like more trouble than it is worth. you'll have issues with the output shaft from the transmission to the t-case. You may also have to alter your rear drive shaft (if the u-joints are different for the ford vs chevy).

I'd just find a chevy axle and make it easier on yourself.

Re: 79 Ford HP dana 60 front in a 72k5?

I was thinking of doing something along these lines because the newer trans cases are left hand rather than rt on the older stuff a F***front might be the fix. I'd have to be sure, but the rear is a center deal on either (if I am not mistaken) 6.0 motor, 4l60e/x-case and a f*** front axle?! Could be...

Re: 79 Ford HP dana 60 front in a 72k5?

What is the purpose of this vechicle?

You do know that the 78-79 ford is the most desirable 60 there is because of it's High pinion and spring pirch width?

I'm using a ford 205 in my rock buggy that has a Ford HP60. Ford 205's have good components in them: big bearing case, 32 spline front and rear outputs.

The drive train in my buggy will be 4.3TBI/SM465/241 Planetaries/Ford 205

Re: 79 Ford HP dana 60 front in a 72k5?

Yes I know that hp 60 is the good one. I already have one sitting in my pole barn. I bought it for SAS on my 97 yukon(never completed). I would have to buy the chevy 60. I also already have a 14 bolt FF with 4.56, detroit, and disc brakes already rebuilt- ready to go (already sitting in rear of yukon). I want to have a daily-driver capable blazer (72) that will see trails, dunes, mud bogs/drags, and sand drags. I just wonder what work is involed with the tranny and t-case issues- the rest of swap is no big deal to me. Is this swap worth it or should I just buy a matching chevy 1 ton set of axles from my bud. They are already 4.56 would have to add detroits and rebuild them?

I`d do it.I wish I had one.I have a NP241 LH-drop/NV4500 with under 20,000 miles from my wrecked`95 I`m dying to use.
You could sell it and buy a GM axle. This is the axle used for straight axle conversions on IFS GMs and serious-duty Jeeps. You could go either way. You`re in a good position having it,either way.
