engine smoking - car hauler?
I wanted to check, I bought this truck last weekend and it has a motor that the guy says only has about 2000 miles since rebuild. It is pretty strong. When I tried it I didn't see smoke. I hauled it home on a uhaul dolley thing. Would the truck being up like that do anything? I couldn't see why. The guy did say it has been sitting for about 2 years, but supposedly he would start it every month or so. It is blue smoke, I have never thought that to be good. Any ideas would help.

Does it quit smoking after it warms up? If so it could be the valve guide seals (common problem on Chevrolet's) and not a huge problem. The car hauler shouldn't have anything to do with it.

I vote valve guide seals. My blazer smokes pretty good when first started. They aren't too bad to change if you have the right tools...

You need an air compressor to hold pressure in the cylinder,and a valvespring compressor to remove and replace the springs.New gaskets,and seals.And free afternoon.

Sounds a little difficult to me brainchild, but I will look it up and see if I find a good write up. I will talk to the guy today and see if I am keeping the truck or not then go from there. I see you are close in monett, I work in springfield and live east. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I forgot to ask this. Since I just bought the truck and was told the engine only had 2000 miles on it, which is like new to me, how much do you think would be fare for me to have him knock of the price? Due to this problem? I mostly bought the truck for the engine.

Depends on what you paid for it, and if you believe the 2,000 miles story. I'd start at $500 and go from there. I'd guess it is valve stem seals as well, but what if that is the tip of the iceberg, and the motor spins a bearing, throws a rod, etc. If you are buying it for the engine, buy a new engine and save the hassle.
