I bought one of those for my 351. Can't wait to try it!

Re: Holley 500's here

So these carbs make good choices for six-cylinder engines?

I have the original one still in the '68 396 truck. It only has 45k miles on it. I rebuilt it last year and it works great--just not enough go juice. Manual choke/throttle is a PITA for anyone without any patience and it doesn't really deliver enough volume for the engine. BB + 2-barrell = Not a good combo from the boys at GM IMHO. Once it warms up and the vacuum seems solid everything works pretty well, it just can't accelerate very fast while towing a heavy load.
It is coming off one of the next few weekends for a stock cast iron high-rise intake and a new q-jet with a coil choke. Then the intake is getting a paint job and I'm strapping them both to the wall up high in the garage...

Wow, you have a '68 396 with a 2 bbl.? Those are supposed to be super rare. I know the truck 396 2 bbl. used the Holley, while the car version had a Rochester 2 bbl..

Yep, it only has 45,000 miles on it now. It is the pic in my avatar. Once it gets warmed up it deisels (run-on) when you shut it off and I've tried everything to get it to quit. An older guy at a swap meet was looking at it and he said that the two-barrel setup has probably contributed to a lot of carbon buildup in the heads and that the carbon is most likely still glowing-hot after I shut the engine off and the carbon deposits are acting like spark-plugs and igniting fuel that is still getting sucked into the intake from the engine vacuum.
I don't know if that is true, but I'm wondering how it will act with the new q-jet on it.
Here's a couple pics:
