underbed gas tank side fill options?
Ok I am waiting for my early classics gas tank to put where the spare tire was so I can drop in a ramjet 350 into my 72 chevy 1/2tn lwb fleetside...
Question? other than the weld in side fill door is there any side fill bolt on setups? I called no limit eng. about the cool-cap but they say no good for side fill ...I would really like marine style or like the motorcylces have with an alum. ring that has the gas cap/neck and I can just run hose to the tank. thoughts? enjoy 1 leg lance |

I welded in a mid 90's chevy pickup fuel door in my bedside, not rally what you are looking for, but it works good and looks like it should be there.

Here is the side marker filler. I did this on my SWB. It's a fairly easy mod.

JimmyDean, that is a cool idea for a different filler. I like it!!!
What I did was use a marine style filler (pop-up) and used the driver side rear stake pocket... Here are some pictures before my truck was painted. It is in the shop getting flames today, but when I can I will post finished pictures... |

My '68 VW Bug had a Yamaha filler that was hinged. It was a little funky to use, but it worked well and looked cool. I doubt I will flush mount it because that's a lot more body work than I am willing to do at this point. The Buell aircraft style filler cap comes off like a standard filler cap, so I think it will be more practicle. Plus I hope to build my chopper out of a Buell, so it will tie the two project together. |

I dont have any pics since bodywork and primer, but thats done. I got a piece of metal and had it bent to cover up the filler neck. Not the smoothest design, but I think itll look ok.

Re: underbed gas tank side fill options?
Check out www.johnnyrods.com and click on the gas tank link on the left side, then scroll down to bottom of page to see some more pictures. I will update the pictures either tonight or before the weekend as I am heading to the paint shop on the way home and will take some more pictures of the finished bed and filler as will as underneath.
