$ value on engine smoking/car hauling thread
Sorry to creat new thread on this, but kind of need some response quickly.
In lue of my other thread, Since I just bought the truck and was told the engine only had 2000 miles on it, which is like new to me, how much do you think would be fare for me to have him knock of the price? Due to this problem? I mostly bought the truck for the engine. Engine is blowing out quite a bit of blue smoke, he didn't tell me till after I bought it that is sat for around 2 years, but supposedly got started occassionally. Thanks! |

Well, is he a friend?, he should have told you. If you bought this cuz of a for sale ad, sorry, I don't want to sound like a a$$, but buyer beware my friend. You say you bought it for the engine. When you yard it out, change the valve seals, not a big job.

I agree change out the valve seals,
Quewstion, did you drain the gas before firing up the engine? Fresh gas is always a must

Re: $ value on engine smoking/car hauling thread
Do a Compression Check On it, you'll know right away what the culprit is.

Re: $ value on engine smoking/car hauling thread
also smell the oil it is .possable that it was flooded bad and diluted the oil with no viscosity compression will be low cause the rings arent sealing and it will run poorly and smoke bad

Re: $ value on engine smoking/car hauling thread
I HAVE FIRED UP QUITE A FEW MOTORS THAT HAVE BEEN SITTING FOR YEARS & MOST OF THEM SMOKED LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN FOR THE FIRST 15 MINUTES OR SO.MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE OUT THE GAS & THE OIL. IF IT STILL SMOKES AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OF RUN TIME, CHANGE THE OIL TO 20W50 (I USE IT 9 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR) & SEE IF THAT DOESN'T STOP IT. IF IT REALLY DOES HAVE ONLY 2000 MILES ON A NEW COMPLETE REBUILD, ALL OF THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS SHOULD BE OK. JOHN
