Question re: rear flip and driveshaft issues
I want to lower the rear of my 71 at least 4". Since it is a leaf spring truck, what are my options besides puttin the axel under the spring? Also, will this much drop have any consequences regarding drive shaft length?

if it has over loads, remove em, then loose a few springs, the springs i have are way over kill, if u flip the axle ur gonna have to c- notch the frame to get any travel, as far as the driveshaft, i have no clue, i made my truck a 1 piece after i dropped it.

I flipped mine & didnt notch. Theres enough room without a notch if you dont haul heavy loads. My drive shaft is fine too. Ill snap a couple pics tonight for you, Ive got the box off right now...corn

I used a 73-87 kit. I did have to trim a little off the top edge where the brackets sit up into the stock perches. Other than that it was a bolt in...corn

My truck is not going to be used to haul anything but the kids. I looked at ECE last night and they have a 4" drop spring but it's also almost $400. I may remove some leaves first. The truck does sit WAY high in the back.

Corn,
Have you changed your shock angle yet ? I have a 6" spring drop. I had 4" drop shocks for the coil applacation in they had the right travel but were on the wrong angle. I used 1" drop shocks for the front of our trucks for the rear shocks. If you look at the existing shock mount there is the stud pressed in look to the back of the bracket there is a empty hole. I drilled it out and used a front shock stud in that hole and bolted the shock in place. Now the truck rides way better and alot smoother.

I put a set of Doetsch-Tech drop shocks on it & they seem to fit pretty good. I think the flip kit is a Western, I bought it from a board member but I think they sell new for @ $75-$100. The spring pin hole is offset to keep the driveshaft length & pinion angle correct...
