Stock 350 hp and tq numbers
Hey Guys - I've done a search, but I was unable to find stock horsepower and torque numbers for a 72 with a 350...Maybe I missed something in the search. Just curious what kind of power they have and with minor upgrades what people are getting. Thanks all!

Re: Stock 350 hp and tq numbers
I'd guess 180-190, the quick and easy HP and TQ gain is cylinder heads, cam, intake, carb, and hei. The heads (smaller combustion chamber and better design, like Vortec) will bring up the compression and flow, the cam, intake, carb and hei enhance the gained flow and compression. With these bolt ons, I'd guess at least a 50-75 hp gain and at least that much tq. There is a lot of potential, but upgrades are needed.

Re: Stock 350 hp and tq numbers
In 72 they showed the 350 making 175hp@4000rpm and 290ftlbs Tq@2400rpm
They changed the way they got those readings in 72 so going back to the 71 exact same engine got 250hp@4600rpm and 350ftlbs tq @3000rpm. Up to 71 they gave flywheel readings of just the engine and after they gave net readings meaning everything hooked up to engine as it would come in the trk. - IE - alt, fuel pump, pwr steering pump, smog pump,AC comp.::::CB |

Re: Stock 350 hp and tq numbers
You can get specific info from here. Engine suffix code should be stamped on a flange located on front pass. side of engine. A lot of changes were made between 70, 71 & 72yrs. Front discs, 5 lugs, as well as HP ratings. My 1970 350 suffix code (TBC) shows 255HP, was wondering why it was so high compared to later years (avg. 165 HP) and thought I had a special engine for a while. Later I learned about the "gross" to "net" HP change over. Found more detailed reading here:
