Rare 1971 Cheyenne 402 Bb?

Has anyone ever seen a 67-72 Chevy 1/2 ton with a big block, air conditioning, and three-on-the-tree?

I was just wondering. That's what my 1971 cheyenne is. I even have the build sheet. It is all there, except I added power brakes and power steering for drivabilty.

Sounds like a speical order truck. I seen one with a 402 and an automatic. I wanted to get it but I couldn't come up with the money. I was like 17 when I saw it last.

That may have been special ordered but it is nothing too special. The 3 speed is the base tranny even on a big block truck.
That 402/TH400 is run of the mill big block stuff there.

Smile Re: Rare 1971 Cheyenne 402 Bb?

these trucks were ordered very strange sometimes, there's a 72 suburban here in town with p-s, p-b, tilt, a-c, and buckets--all on the glove box and it has an idiot light insturment panel. i've seen a couple of big block/3 speed trucks but not too many. even seen a few big block/4 speed (granny box) trucks.
there used to be a 72 cheyenne super shortbed stepside here that was probably the most loaded truck i've ever seen, p-s, p-b, a-c, tilt, tach, am/fm, buckets, posi, black on black, really sweet truck and it was all on the build sheet. i had a chance to buy it once but was short on cash at the time, i've kicked myself in the a$$ ever since.

Re: Rare 1971 Cheyenne 402 Bb?

So is it true that a BB 3 on the tree comes with a small hump floor?

Thanks Tommy

Re: Rare 1971 Cheyenne 402 Bb?

Ihave a 72 GMC 1500 Super Custom ,402 3 onnna tree,A/C, PB,no P/S. LWB HD rear springs.Non guage dash. You'd think whoever ordered it would of at least got P/S and and auto trans.

However it was the first time I ever saw one of these trucks with a rubber floormat that wasn't black.

Re: Rare 1971 Cheyenne 402 Bb?

A lot of ppl think that some options are automatic with upscale packages... my old blue longhorn was a CST, chrome rear bumper, 350/th350, p/s, p/b, A/C, AM radio... and dummy light guages. had so many ppl tell me it wasn't original...yet, it was.

Re: Rare 1971 Cheyenne 402 Bb?

Since a true 4-on-the-floor wasn`t available and automatics hadn`t yet become the top choice in racing back then, alot of guys prefered the 3spd.With a powerful motor the tall gearing launched you off the line and on down the track quick. You don`t think Hurst came out with floor shifters just to replace worn column shift likage do you?Alot of guys liked the way 2nd "Really winds-out!"

Re: Rare 1971 Cheyenne 402 Bb?

I came across a 3/4 ton with a BB and 3 speed standard trans on the column shift.....he was selling too...down in Alabama a few years back......Jimmy or or his brother Johnny...my bud and I still laugh a little when we found that one. They knew they had something.
