i am HATING my truck right now
well i got my rebuilt engine and trans in the truck now. looks sweet. almost ready to fire the thing up. tightened up the nut on the starter for the pos. cable wires.......crack ! plastic on solenoid cracks. grrrrrrrr pull the starter........ pain with the headers i got.........go to napa and get the $70 lifetime warrenty starter. i am taking no chances. even made a nice heat shield for the starter. get the header and starter on and try the starter out. click click click. wth....put charger on battery......clean all connections check all grounds.....try it again click and a humming sound wtf ! pull header off and play with shims . no luck. pull stater and use jumper cables to try it...works great. 3 hours and a lot of cussing and even throwin some tools and i cant get the engine to crank and inch ! wtf ! in 25 years of workin on cars i have never had this kind of luck with a lousy starter.

I know the feeling too. Just think though, for any newer vehicle a starter would be $120.00 to $300.00 bucks and probably take a lot longer to change.

Re: i am HATING my truck right now
Is this the first time trying to start since rebuild? Make sure you have a clean surface to hook your ground cable to. If block is painted scrape it to bare metal. Make sure battery cables are clean and tight. I just went through this with my neighbors tractor. Was getting a 12.4 volt reading everywhere we checked it even at the starter. Dirty cable ends was not getting enough amperage. At the end of the day I felt like a damn fool.

Re: i am HATING my truck right now
yes all the connection are spotless including block. starter engages to flywheel but wont turn engine over. i had this engine in before rebuilding it and no problems with the old starter with no shims. i am thinking something is not right with the starter but it seems to work fine when i take it out and use jumper cables to test it. my friend has some used starters laying around. i am going to try one of those and if it works i will go throw the napa starter through their front window !! that would make me feel a whole lot better !!

Re: i am HATING my truck right now
Are you sure the engine isn't locked up? Can you turn the engine over by hand?
