Question about gauge clusters

I've got to replace the gauge cluster and bezel on my '85 and need to ask a question about it first. My truck didn't originally have a tach, but I'm wondering if a cluster that has a tach will work in my truck with just the standard plugin, or if it would need to be re-wired in some way? Thanks for your help.

Re: Question about gauge clusters

Any 78 or newer tach cluster will bolt straight in, unless you have cruise control, then you'll need a newer orange ringed tach, and to swap in your old speedo in so you can retain the speed sensor on the back of it.

The tach has its own mini-wiring harness to hook up, has a ground wire that goes to the grounding block on the e-brake assembly, a hot wire that plugs into your fuse box on one of the accessory ports, and a tach signal wire with a condensor installed factory to eliminate any electrical noise from interfering with the tach reading that runs to the HEI cap's tach terminal.
