Good Friday at PicNPull. Found a 1980 Silverado with a tight tilt column. Spent 90 minutes wrestling the danged thing out. Should have remembered the "Oh So Common" 19/32 box end wrench! Should be in everyones tool bag.

My question, The Auto shift lever collar on the shaft, below the tilt articulation - could it be swapped for the collar from my non-tilt, manual trans column. They look to be slightly different lengths. But, that may not matter. Anyone know??

That should work but it´s quiet tricky to pull that tiltcolumn apart i think!
I have a similar problem.The shiftlever is loose,can i solve that buy just taking it out,or do i have to take the whole column out and apart?
It is just back in and all the wiring is done around it!

I don't think so based on what I have seen from working on different columns. Once you get down to the tilt mechanism the tilt and non tilt columns are different. Even a lot of the similar looking items are different between tilt and non tilt.

Kinda thought so. I'll just do the grind and bondo trick.

btw: Never knew the wiring was so easy to pass thru the column. Gives me some ideas... Hmmmmm.....
