Should have never sold my 1st Blazer

Back in 1995 I purchased my first Blazer. It was a 1970 with 35's and a 6" lift. I dumped my heart and soul into this Blazer over the next few years. I drove it from the Bay Area where I lived at the time to my new home in San Diego.

Months later when I scored some cash I began to do what I had always dreamed of.

I had the 350 rebuilt. The old owner had this thing set up with a single plane manifold. It bogged on the low end so I had it rebuilt for a daily driver/4x4 reliability. But the heads were this brand I never heard of (Brodix). Come to find out these heads are worth $2000+ brand new. When they pulled the cam out, multiple lobes were worn. That engine ran of 6cyl for probably a couple of years with no problems. While the block was being rebuilt I had the compartment painted and that good stuff. It looked great.

Bought Skyjacker springs(never installed them), had the tranny rebuilt, new upholtery, brakes and all kinds of goodies.

I still can't believe I sold this thing. I paid 4k for it, sunk 8k into it. It's probably a $15k+ Blazer today.

I sold it for $6000 back in 1998. Arrrrrrgh!

Now I'm starting over with a new blazer that I have owned for about 1 year. I'm 12k into this one and have nothing close to what I had then. I did repaint it the same color though. I guess I'm chasing what I had then.

hind-sightis always 20/20. Many of us have been there too. I must say, my current '72 is by far the nicest of the three Blazers I've owned. Of course, I paid a lot more for it too.

Over the years I've built and owned a lot of nice cars and trucks. But I would also have to admit that due to not enough money and raising a family I could never get one just right. I bought the best that I could afford but In my heart I wanted more. So about a month ago I found a project that was started by a board member. He didn't have time to finish it so it was posted for sale and I bought it. I hope to make it my best one yet. You had a good one and let it get away, so build this one a little bit better. You'll never forget the first one, that's how you'll know how to make this one better.

An investment of both time and money that can be driven and enjoyed throughout the journey.

Okay, serious now...
12K for a decent/solid/good running driver is about on par these days.

I won't tell ya what I've got 'sunk' into my 67-72 fleet.

What did me in was when my dad gave me his 1972 Kona boat. He bought it new with my mom. I didn't have a tow hitch and at the time no one made one. Everyone said to go to a blacksmith. $1000 for a custom hitch. I was 20 years old! I said screw and sold the beauty.

My 72CST has way better bones.

This is true, but you can pay for it a little at a time if you build it yourself. You will just end up paying more in the long run. But its just like you want it, not how someone else wanted it.

NOt to mention learning new skills. If I had bought my truck fully done, I probably would have never learned of this place.

I'm on my 4th K5 and I have started with a better one than all the others (less rust) almost none!! But, I let the 69 with AC get away without knowing it was a low production number and the first of the K5's!! Damn it, it was even original paint, rollbar, and other options. But the 72 (with a 68 clip now) is a way better starting point. Do it the way you want, and you'll have a nicer one than before, besides Brodix heads are cheap, now!
