Hello I'm doing the famous lsx conversion and I started today,I just pulled out the 327 and th400 to put in the 6.0 and 4L80E that I bought at a junk yard nearby with all accesories and harness with the cpu for $3000.00 the motor and trans is from a 2005 express van. I'm keeping the fuel tank in place for now untill I get going cuase I'm going to buy a fuel tank from a member here that's from michigan he is Kas68c10. I'll post some pics later.

Re: 1968 C-10 lsx conversion
have fun. i have links to two things in my signature - one is a thread i'm doing on my swap @ ls1tech, another has pictures of all of my truck mods in progress (or already done) including pictures of the swap. they might be of help.

Re: 1968 C-10 lsx conversion
An other problem today as I'm preping the engine and cleaning it I decide to test it so try to turn the crank pully with my socket. So I turn it a little and then no budge I mean it wouldn't go past a 1/4 turn on either way does this mean the engine is bad?

Re: 1968 C-10 lsx conversion
If you left the spark plugs in when you tried turning the engine over, the compression will prevent you from turning it over. Just take out the spark plugs, then turn it over. It never hurts to look down the cylinders as you turn it over for extra confidence.

Re: 1968 C-10 lsx conversion
It's not froze I can turn a little but after I hear air suction it stops like if there was a bump I tried it with extra pole for leverage and won't budge when the compression is high shouldn't it push back like a spring?

Tommarrow I'll take the spark plugs off as a last resort if not it's going back to the Junk yard where I got it from.

Re: 1968 C-10 lsx conversion
Don't wanna rain on your parade, but it sounds to me like the motor may have hydro-locked at some point. When this happens, the connecting rods bend and you get interference problems between the rod/piston or rod/crank. I could be wrong.
You could also have dropped a valve. That could stop a piston on the upstroke. I say pull the valve covers and oil pan and look for anything abnormal. Some motors just have tight spots where they are not as easy to roll over. try a little more leverage, just not so much that you break anything. The harmonic balancer bolt can take it. They are torqued to 450 ft/lbs or so. -Chris

Re: 1968 C-10 lsx conversion
Stupid question; Is the transmission connected to your engine?

Re: 1968 C-10 lsx conversion
I told you it was a stupid question! I was going to suggest taking it out of gear. haha.
I hope you get it figured out. I really can't think of anything that would prevent it from turning over on a good engine. There are many things that could possibly be wrong inside. Good luck!
