brake booster help
ok. well just finished hooking up my booster and running new brake lines. got it bled and everything is working... except when i step on the brake pedal it wont return. you have to pull it back out. any ideas? they work great, its just the pedal. i am running the booster off the vacuum line on the front of the carb because there wasnt an outlet on the manifold. could that be the problem? i checked and there is a decent vacuum from the port.
thanks in advance for any help

Re: brake booster help
I had a similiar problem on my '65 c10 with '69 chevy c10 dual master cylinder... turned out it was the distribution block - thign between the MC and the rest of the lines - you may not have one - was cutting off fluid to the fronts on mine, it had great pedal when I'd bleed the back brakes, pedal woudl return, then I'd bleed the fronts and no joy.
I wound up bleeding all 4 wheels at once - hoses on the bleeder valves submerged in brake fluid at each wheel. This may not be your problem... have you checked the spring and all that under the dash, allt he rods connected good? -W Last edited by Woogeroo; 04-23-2006 at 02:54 PM. |

Re: brake booster help
i have a proportional valve there between the m/c and the lines. all wheels bled fine. and i had to move it to park and the brakes worked fine, just had to pull the pedal up with my toe after stopping. the pedal feels fine and returns when the motor is off. i thought i was getting insuffeceint vacuum from the carb (i read it is a varible vacuum not as constant as from the manifold) so i located the manifold vacuum and tried that and problem is still there with no change. i will call performanceonline.com in about 30 mins when they open and see what they say but from here it looks like i have a bad booster. arrrrgggghhhh! im ready to finish this brake swap already!

Re: brake booster help
dallas71:
the disc swap and booster were from performanceonline.com. the m/c and prop valve were from (this is what i was told by the previous owner) a 71c10 had the booster too but no brake rod or brackets so i just bought the new one. boosters and mastercylinders are pretty much generic though. if it will bolt on it will work. you just need to worry about the rod and linkage 53 chevy: no but read my next post for update on status

Re: brake booster help
update:
ok well performanceonline.com sent out another booster. got the new one in and its working. return is a little slow but from research it will take a little driving to get the last bit of air out and 20 miles should have everything working well. also gonna use a return spring. thanks for the help guys
