sanding down bed (pics)
Started sanding down the bed today. Using a da sander. Not too bad, but are there any faster ways to take all the paint off myself? Don't want to use any chemicals. The old paint looked like it was shrinking and all peeling off or something. I finally have a decent job and a garage that I can mess with it. Garage is 50 x 40. Not looking to make it a show truck, just want to make it a decent looking truck I can use as a truck.
And my friend trans am he is going to start working on. Last edited by dalbers; 04-23-2006 at 02:58 AM. |

You could get it media blasted. It does get long when sanding down a vehicle for repaint. I figure I have another zillion years on mine to get it all down for paint.

Re: sanding down bed (pics)
I have been doing a good bit of sanding as well. I have been using an orbital, and I just start off with a high grit, and then go to lower grit to clean it up and make it a little smoother. On mine, i just got down to the old primer, because once you get there, your gonna be there a while. I already primed my cab that i painted, and you can't tell that the old primer is under there.
I am not starting to sand the inside of my bed, and it is turning out to be quite the job. I would be guess to be done with it in mid may, primed and all. |

You might try a heat gun and scraper. Not sure if that truck works on 36 year old paint, but it does a nice job on newer cars.
I am going to sand blast the inside of my bed, I won't even consider trying to use paper. |

Use a 3m roloc strip disc. They sell them now in the 4 1/2" version. It will make it go real fast without taking out any metal and minimal heat to warp the panels. Good luck.
