Pertronix Ignitor installation on '72?
I just recieved my Ignitor and I'm going to put it in today. If anyone's interested I'll take pictures and FAQ the process.
The instructions state that I should connect the power upstream of the external ballast resistor if one is installed - do we have this in the '72? I have an ignition-hot line available in the engine compartment. Looks like the only thing that can change this from a minor install to a major one is the distributor end-play. The air gap between the magnets and the reluctor that mounts to the bottom of the mechanical advance (nice design is critical - if there is sufficient end-play that this gap is > .060, then the gear must be removed and shims installed. Not the end of the world, but I certainly don't have the shims or the roll pin in my toolbox. I may do my MSD 6AL today as well - we'll see how it goes |

the original distributor feedwire is a resistor circuit so you'll have to run a new ignition wire from the fuse box// check the FAQ section for HEI installation it will show how to tap and run the wire

Re: Pertronix Ignitor installation on '72?
Thanks!
I've already got the ignition-hot line run, so I'm good. I'm putting in a Painless 3-circuit relay on the fenderwell sometime in the next few weeks, so I had already run the line. |

Re: Pertronix Ignitor installation on '72?
just a heads-up. this swap for a V8 was covered fully in the latest edition i got of Custom Classic Trucks. i think the cover has a red '56 mail-order Ferd or something like that. it may or may not be the same issue that's in the store (the store gets it for a week or two before paid subscribers get the mag eh)
