pics of my project
Here is what my truck looks like at the moment. the primer that you see is the final coat on most things. finishing the doors, but the rest is basicly done. the box is at home so it's not in the pics but it is done too.
hopefully in a few weeks I'll have it painted and started to go back together. ------------------ 1969 C-10 292 I-6 4 spd in the middle of a restoration. going to get a 327 and 3.07 gears but keeping all of the original parts so I can put it back to original later on down the road. 55 chevy 4 door 150 47 Willys CJ-2A

Looks like your truck is coming along nicely. One thing I learned is patience, do it right the first time. That's what it looks like you are doing!

Looks great so far!
Are you changing from original color and if so how did you change color on firewall. Would love to go from blue to red on my truck but looks like alot of work to change firewall color and down inside vent area without paint stripping off later. No way to sand and don't have sandblaster.

solver, yes we are changing color. it was pea green with a white top and we are going to a solid indigo blue metallic. this blue is a common color on GM trucks today, but I think it'll look great on this one. we ended up sandblasting almost everything because someone had tried to do some work on it before. the more we worked the worse it got. one time we had the cab hanging upside down in the shop so that we could work on the inside top of the cab. you can pretty much scuff sand everything and you should be ok as long as the old paint has a good bite. you may also give a self etching primer a try, that may work. we are going to paint the cowl area the same as the body, otherwise it would look funny. The firewall is black along with the rest of the engine compartment. That's my dad in the pics. I'm taking them. we have spent alot of time doing things right the first time and I agree that this is the best way to go. I started this truck when I was 17 and I'm now 19. so we've been at it a while. thanks for the comments

That looks great - should be awesome when you are done. It is always great to see when someone is able to do a project like this with a parent. If more parents could find a hobby to do with their kids, everyone would benefit.

Nice work, going to be a grat looking truck when finished.
You take the pictures, how much work do you do? Or does "Dad" do most of the work ? LOL Rust Tip: My truck had minor rust areas. I used Jasco Metal Etch, nasty stuff. Brushed it on, 15 min later washed it off, wire brushed down to metal. Primed with a epoxy primer, to keep any future rust from bleeding through, This primer is hard to sand. Primed with a normal auto primer, easy to work before applying color coat. Been two years and not a sign of returning rust or paint lifting. Silver is the original color ------------------ 72 Cheyenne Super, Fleetside, Shortbed, Original Owner, Special Ordered Northern Calif

no, this is MY truck so I do much of the work. it is sort of a trade off. he is better at welding and I am better at body work. there was plenty of each!! we both paint about the same so it is pretty even. Dad and I work together on most of the projects that we do. we're nearly inseprable, if one of us is working there are not many times that the other is not right there beside. that's ok cause the 55 chevy will be the next project and he owns that. it's a fair trade.
oh ya, and he took his pictures earlier with the other camera. I just took them to post on the board. lol ------------------ 1969 C-10 292 I-6 4 spd in the middle of a restoration. going to get a 327 and 3.07 gears but keeping all of the original parts so I can put it back to original later on down the road. 55 chevy 4 door 150 47 Willys CJ-2A [This message has been edited by texnician01 (edited April 19, 2002).]

the frame is painted flat black and the front crossmember is smoke gray along with the rear axle, springs, and control arms.
the blue paint is a pearl but it doesn't show very well in the pic. ------------------ 1969 C-10 292 I-6 4 spd in the middle of a restoration. going to get a 327 and 3.07 gears but keeping all of the original parts so I can put it back to original later on down the road. 55 chevy 4 door 150 47 Willys CJ-2A [This message has been edited by texnician01 (edited April 19, 2002).]

oh, sorry heh, I thought that was primer.
I was gonna use a flat black on mine, infact I had some on it for a while, but then I came across the eastwood company and their OEM black epoxy spray, its $10 a can but its great stuff, I've used it on my entire frame suspension, crossmembers.. the whole 9 yards. btw stupid question, I may have overlooked it.. but are you gonna be fleetside or stepside? ------------------ Projects Belair '71 C10 LWB to SWB conversion:C10 project page 65Chevelle pics coming soon |

This is going to be a fleetside...I might take pics of the box when I get home. It is already done and ready for the paint so we took it home to make more room in the shop and keep anything from happening to it. The closer we get to being finished..the more likely it is that someone will drop something on it or hit it....hate it when that happens..lol
maybe this pic of the paint will show up.
