Successful weekend - Finally lowered

Took the 62' over to a friends (After Flash Custom Trucks) and spent the day getting the ol' gal on the ground.

Still have to fab some custom front shock mounts, and install shocks, we didnt install the 12 bolt gm rear, as we are going to spend another day shortning the trailing arms a 1 1/2" so we can center the rear wheels in the rear fender/wheel well, have the driveshaft shortend install the ECE super track bar ( the one they sent me was too short need 39 1/4" center to center), and get ready to install the 700R4.

this is a 4 1/2" / 5 1/4" drop utilizing a 86' chevy front X-Member, and a 10 Bolt GM rear diff. Mcgauhey (sp) 2 1/2" drop spindles, 2" drop coils (Street Beat Customs) and ECE 5" Drop coils, Super Track Bar Setup (adds another 1/4" drop when brackets/spacer installed)

Will post more as we fab the front shock mounts, and do the rear Diff swap and trailing arm mods.

Here are some pics:

In this picture the rear is dropped (5 1/4") since I am only using static methods and not hydrolics this will be it (yeah right, that what they all say )

The only thing we are going to change will be the 12 Bolt 3.73 Posi for the 10 bolt 3.08, shorten the trailing arms 1 1/2 " ( as the truck goes down the rear moves back) so will shorten and beef up the trailing arms to compensate and center the wheels, axle in the center of the fender/wheel well, this will aleviate any possible clearance problems and asthetically correct it.

We will have to shorten the drive shaft, and might as well do that at the same time the 700R4 goes in. Were using ECE's super track bar kit for left to right centering (Mark from ECE has been great to work with , called him today to order a custom length bar, and said no problem send me the other and I will have it built and ship it right out to you)

Will shoot more pics and post as we go, I highly recommend After Flash Custom Trucks here in Eastern New Mexico, if any body is close by (West Texas, or NM AZ area and needs anything I can get you Ron Knowles contact info. He used to work for Hills Customs out of Lubbock TX but went solo a few years ago, has done a few magazine spreads and some SEMA entry and wins. Seasoned Pro.

Re: Successful weekend - Finally lowered

what a difference 4 inches of drop can make huh? sounds like you are going all out. i'll be watching for your updates. i have got my 2.5 spindles up front but may lower more with springs and still need to lower the back. probably just use blocks for that though.

looking good!

Thanks, to each of you for the kind remarks, you each know on limited budgets how nerveracking it can be, you want to make sure it looks right, but if you install, not everyones return policy is lienant (sp). so you remeasure, photshop, ponder etc etc and hope you get it right.

As for the bags....... I don't know maybe when the kids (3 of them, 17,14,12) are out of the house (yeah right- LOL). just want to enjoy driving it for a while and finsh up the interior, then later on do a body off, ground up make over.

I just had it put in the factory white (60-63 olympic white) by a friend who just opened a MAACO, yeah I know what you thinking, but it actually turned out pretty good, and it is not the end product anyhow, just getting it in color and protecting it untill I can do the body off.

I love these old trucks and this is my stress relief beside being at the lake on the boat tubin, sking and fishing with the family.

Re: Successful weekend - Finally lowered

Hey looks great in my book man. At least you are driving your and enjoying it. Love the look of the 62's. Looks ugly but cool if you know what I mean. I love it. Keep up the good work and just a question if you know. Why would the rearend move back once you lower since it is "fixed" on the axle trailing arms bolted down?
