Re: What are these? Dash Plugs?

I think this post is old, but was wondering if you ever got to the bottom of your question? I have a 1963 GMC and had the same plugs until I recently yanked em. I'd like to know what the original purpose of these holes were.

I wonder if they are for the "cheap" heater? those kind had two knobs, one for vent, and one for the fan.

The next time I am out at kellys wrecking yard, I will try to get a bunch of pics of gmc dashes for you, he has 20 or so, and I seem to remember seeing a cheap heater.

Re: What are these? Dash Plugs?

My '61 GMC has them too,and I asked on another forum as well
Nobody seems to know what they're for
They must be for something or they wouldn't be there??
I can't help but think they're heavy truck related (low air warning light or ??)
Also noticed that they're a bit far away for any kind of driver use,ie, heater control

Re: What are these? Dash Plugs?

Turns out these are the perfect size for two push buttons I have for a shaved door handle solenoid kit. I'm not too keen on shaved door handles, but that's how the truck came. They did a nice job welding the doors and smoothing things out, but a horrible solenoid set up (it was soo ghetto). Anyhow, short term fix will be an Autoloc set up i purchased from eBay and the interior buttons fit perfect. I'll post pics someday!
