fuel gauge help

what color is the fuel gauge wire? is it inside or under the hood? i have a tank in the bed and an aftermarket gauge. i bought a new cluster and want to get rid of the aftermarket gauge.

I have a '68 and the tank is mounted in the cab. In my truck, it is a tan wire that runs for the center part of the tank, where the sender is located. From there, it runs across the tank, then down the driver side seam (where the weather stripping is located.

From there, it runs directly up to the fuse panel and plugs into a location that is marked "fuel gauge" on the fuse panel.
