Re: 4 speed tranny
I had a 63 4x4 and I cant remember if it was that loud or not. plus I have all the carpet and sound deadner out of the truck for repainting, so that could be why its louder too!

Re: 4 speed tranny
It shouldn't be real loud. I would guess someone ran it without lube. It will probably run a long time, as long as you don't mind the noise.

Re: 4 speed tranny
I was thinking about going to an auto turbo 350. I have the divorced rockwell, could I put in the auto and get a drive shaft shop to make the new shaft to the rockwell?

Re: 4 speed tranny
Personally I like driving the old rock boxes. My 60 has the 420, and my 71 blazer has the 465. I'd recommend keeping it
If you DO decide to change, most people would say that the TH350 was a crazy choice when you could go to the 700r4 and get an overdrive. Brian |

Re: 4 speed tranny
The 4x4 is not a divorced transer case, right?
You might be able to get a gear vendors overdrive in there if it's divorced. Brian |

Re: 4 speed tranny
GV's are pricey but I did have one mated to my 350 turbo with attached NP205. I would suggest if you cannot live with what you have -- find a 700 R4 with a NP208. Probably drive shafts would need some mods besides the mounts. Then again I do not own a 61 to know for sure.
