new from Mass
Hello all I just found this site... mainly hoping to find info on hom much work it would be to swap out my 72 chevy K10 frame to a 73-87 frame...
I recently purchased the K10 but it is the 3rd 67-72 I have owned... my first project was a 72 GMC 1500 4x4... never got to finish because I went into the air force and when I Was gone my brother in law blew the motor and then took it over... when I got home I was going to purchase it back but he wanted to much money for it... he paid me $1500 for it... he wanted $6000 for it back... in non running condition.. O well my second 72 was a chevy C10. it was a daily driver-fun to drive truck and fixer upper... I put lots of time and money into it.. but when I moved from Ga to Fl I could not take more then one vehicle to the chevy had to go.. ![]() The new 71 K10 4x4 I purchased about a week ago.. it runs ( I would not say great) but it runs and drives... needs a little ( understatment ) work and the frame is a little gone... so if anyone has any info on the frame swap and could aim me in the right direction that would be great... sence I purchased it on monday I have replaced the exaust with a dual dynomax 2-1\2 inch exaust and have welded up the holes in the frame as a temporary fix... waiting on my LMC catolog so I can drop a boat load of money into that store... so main thing I don't know much about is the frame swap.. I am going to try and find a solid 72 frame but in the case of that being impossible I want to know the steps... this truck is going to be a driver-weekend fun truck and I am going to drive it and slowly restore it... my plans as of now are 4 inch lift and 34 inch tires we shall see though... ![]() |

the 73+ frame. |

Re: new from Mass
Wow,I have never seen rust that bad,I would try, try, try to find a 67-72 frame
and if you cant find one then use a 73+ frame as a last resort, the 73+ frames are different. |

Re: new from Mass
yeah rust is bad in mass... I have seen 87 frames look not much better... I have been looking around... I think there are small differeces with the way the body mounts.. but will see.. I would love to find a 72 in the bone yard to use but I'm 0 for 2 at the local yards...

Re: new from Mass
Check with Mudder67 (drop him a pm) and he can set you up on the frame swap, his truck is bad!!
Before giving LMC a LOT of your money try some of the vendors listed here.

I know of two in junkyards in Ma and sothern NH one is a dup truck and the other is a 2wd i think the 2wd has a good frame but don't know if it is a short bed and don't know if you can use it. I would haved PM you but have no way to do so. It is located at BrandyBrow auto parts in Haverhill ma or it is in Plastow Nh
