Engine differences?

Looking at an 82 350 out of a chevy van and was wondering how much work it would be to convert to work in my truck. I am sure it is probably a long water pump being 82 .Will short bolt up in it's place? What bolt holes will I be missing . will I be able to mount up my 72 power steering pump and driver side alt?
thanks for any info

Re: Engine differences?

Think you should be okay. Big change was after 86 when small blocks went to one piece rear main seal. Holes should be the same.

I just purchased brand new crate engine and it has holes in all same places as my 72 350 that was pulled out.

Re: Engine differences?

That should be a direct swap, everything is the same/will fit. Water pump, ps and alt holes, etc are the same. The only major difference is the right hand dipstick may interfere with ram horn manifold. I am using a dipstick from a 89 camaro and that clears the ram horn exhaust just fine.

Re: Engine differences?

if you have A/C, the dip stick will be a PITA.
However, you'll be needing a new shorter dip stick anyways. The van one is like a mile long.

Re: Engine differences?

the dipstick isn't a problem,just put an 81 350 down in the 67 1 ton.No problems at all.

Re: Engine differences?

Green Machine...get those RAM-Horns blasted and paint them. They look out of place on that shiney orange engine

I just did mine with POR-15 high temp engine paint. Look great...but haven't got engine in truck yet, so no reports on durability.

Re: Engine differences?

Ya, I know, that pic sucks, they are butt ugly, not up to my standards, but those are just temporary to get the engine broke in, got some temporary exhaust in about as bad of shape. Once we get everthing sorted out going to try of find some coated headers that actually fit and new exhaust, the rams horns will be for sale !!!
