new holley last only 2 months

well i have always been a pro holley guy..
even have holley floor mats in the truck !!!
rebuilt ton's of them...hum..maybe that should have told me?

well me and the wife are driving sunday 98 outside hot, with the a/c on
truck starts running like crap. figure, carbs to hot, turn a/c off. almost don't make it home.
leave it sit till monday , nice and cool now..same crap. take it apart looking for something wrong ,power valve, junk in carb, nothing.
running 4 fuel filters, camper special 3 tanks

well i am figuring it's the carb..call auto zone rebuilt quadrajet by {champion}
127.00 think they might have screwed up?? thinking it should be more

truck run's great
any body know where i can get some quadrajet branded floor mats

HOLLEY SUCKS

NEVER HAD GOOD LUCK WITH EDELBROCK

GOING TO RETURN TO QUADRAJET'S FOR EVER

truck run's better with the quadrajet than it did while the holley 600 ran good
maybe because it's rated at a 750 cfm?
i almost bet my gas milage is going to get better

so now i have this brand new 2 month old holley 600 electric choke shinny finish payed 250.00 for. it. should i just drive over it a few times with my 3/4 ton
and hang whats left on the wall or sent it back to holley??

also have about 10 holley carbs ,6 qjets. 2bbl and 4bbl
also about 1800.00 in replacment holley parts WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THIS STUFF WILL SELL CHEAP MARK
THIS IS THE HOLLEY CARB SITTING IN THE BOX NOW

dude that sucks. sorry to hear about your bad experince. while i got ya what's the part number for that q jet. i need a new carb for my p.o.s.

as far as the new holly goes, return it as a defective. there is appsolutly no reason that it should have gone bad that quick especially with the experince you have with them. as for the extra parts one word "EBAY"

Re: new holley last only 2 months

I feel Holley quality has gone downhill in the past few yrs, the race carbs still seem OK but the street stuff seems iffy. Nothing wrong w/a Quad, I like them & have one on two trucks. Love that secondary howl. brian

I have an edelbrock now myself, but the cold starting is a b****. Looks like maybe holley isnt the way to go either.
I have been looking at them demon carbs. Are they any good?

Re: new holley last only 2 months

I have three Holley carbs on three different vehicles and they all run great. The whole problem with a Holley is tuning it just right. Took me a lot of practice to get them right. I like Edelbrock and Quadrajets also IMO they are all as good as the person who rebuilt them and/or tuned them. My Street Avenger carb required a bit of tinkering to get it just right and they're supposed to be RTR out of the box...uh huh.

Ive had great luck with 3310 holleys but never have been thrilled with the 1850s. Nothing wrong with a Qjet though...

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm not very familiar with Q-jets, but is it like a heat activated setup or electric?

Re: new holley last only 2 months

yup no problem..fits right on my new edelbrock duel mount intake ,,squrebore or spreadbore.. no adaptors required. just mounted my idle kick-up switch for the a/c tonight..bump's up the idle 200 rpm for the a/c comp load.
runs great. idle's in gear at 600 rpm smooth as a babys butt..
better gas mileage to boot over the holley...mark

Re: new holley last only 2 months

That's what I needed to know. A coworker needs one. Called and priced it today, $118.99. Almost too good to be true. Just giving the part #, the guy couldn't tell me much about it without getting more info.

Thanks

Re: new holley last only 2 months

I always been partial to holley's 4150 platform. The single fuel feed Holleys have always been a pain from what I've seen. I would definatley send it back to Holley though. You should not be having terminal problems at all, that's for sure.

As for the whole Manufacturer debate? I think it is a matter of preference. Kind of like the whole Ford v Chevy, Remington v Ruger, AMD v Intel, Huffy v Schwin, Republican v Democrat, etc.
I bolted on a new Street Avenger 670 a few weeks ago. I have been thru a few tuning issues, mostly due to the fact that the carb is too big for my current engine but bought for the upgrade I plan in the future. I have run many Holley's in the past and once tuned never had an issue. I have also had many vehicles w/q-jets on them, and all ran better when I put on the Holleys. I will concede however to never replacing a carb. w/a q-jet or edlebrock. Once it needs a new carb., mine get a Holley.
I do not look upon them negatively for needing tuning. I am skeptical of anything "universal". If you can bolt it on anything, and it runs fine, I question if it is providing all of the HP it can? If you have to tune it to a particular application, then it is probably giving better performance WHEN PROPERLY TUNED. Not saying that is always the case, just my general train of thought. And that goes w/ computers, cars, slot cars, boats, bicycles, life, etc.

Re: new holley last only 2 months

Just wanted to add that I called on one of these reman carbs today.... Advance Auto as well as Auto Zone.....
The part number they gave me when they looked it up by vehicle (1971 350 AT) was 3-87A The price was a little more ($148 + core). That was at Advance, and the clerk said it was remanned by Champion..... Auto Zone said theirs was the same part #, but the clerk told me on the phone it was remanned by Holley, and the price was within a buck or two.

Re: new holley last only 2 months

I've had Q-jets and they work great. Not really a performance orienteed carb per say. They can be though with some work. I like the Edelbrocks also. I've been through a lot of holleys too. Very simple, easy to work on but don't hold much of a 'tune'. I have a demon now and I think it's the best carb I've ever owned as far as holding a tune and performance. Basically Barry Grant used to make upgrade and replacement parts for Holley's until they decided to just make their own carb. I've had mine on my truck for 4 years and haven't had any problems at all. IMHO they are MUCH more tunable as long as you get the right carb for your appliaction. You basically pick out your demon based on your cam profile. I'm running a BG 650 mechanical secondary speed demon. However, picking out a carb seems to be as personal as selecting exhaust.....Good luck.
