Bucket Seat Upolstry Info needed
I just picked up a set of buckets from a 69 or 70 Suburban. They are trashed but the frames are still in good shape.
Now that I have looked over the options from GMC PAUL, Brothers and LMC and picked myself up off the floor. I dont really like the 70 seat cover options. My question is this. If I want to go with a 71-72 houndstooth style cover can I simply purchase 71-72 buns install them on my frames and then cover with the desired covers? Are they the same frame? Or will I need to stay with the 69-70 style buns and have someone make the covers custom? thanks, Thomas

Re: Bucket Seat Upolstry Info needed
as far as i know, all the parts are interchangable. i put a 71-72 cover on mine because i didnt like the 69 pattern as much.
i dont think anything was changed over the years except for the scroll detailing and the houndstooth. someone correct me if im wrong.

Did you change the buns? They seem to sell three different versions of the buns for the bucket seats. Assumed you woudl have to match buns from one year with coveres from that same year. I have only sean maybe one or two bucket seats in person and until I started looking did not even realize the differences. thansk

I didnt have to change the seat foam. I did this on a 69 blazer a while back, but I used the 71-72 pattern. hope this kinda helps answer your question.

Re: Bucket Seat Upolstry Info needed
The covers are cut and shaped different to fit the different shape of the foams for the 69-70 vs 71-2. If you want the covers to "tuck" and look nice you need to keep the covers & foams the same.
The frames are all the same. I don't think you will even come close to the fit and finish of the USA repros compared to what an upholstery shop can make. The price is very good also. It is the new foams that are expensive. |
