lead additive?
I posted this question in my other thread about my 305 v6 being a pig... I tuned it up and added a bottle of lead additive to the tank of Super that i put in. If this motor has never had hardened valves seats put in it... I should run an additive correct? Since I don't know the history of it, will it hurt if they have been changed at some point? or is this something I need not even worry about?
Thanks |

Ive been using a Lead Additive that I get at Walmart for $5.99 called CD-2. There is enough for 300 gallons, so it is very reasonable. I have been very happy with it. It has even stopped my morning puff of smoke when I start up

The lead is there to lube the valves. Extensive govenment and fleet testing showed that normal use under 3000 RPM is not supposed to wear it too much. But then again, the military doesn't mind an engine only being good for 1000 hrs of use.
IMO, lead additives or lead substitutes are necisary if your heads have not been upgraded. And if they have been done, the lead won't hurt. The only thing lead will hurt is oxygen sensors and catilitic converters. Chances are, your 305 has not been done. They don't get torn down muvh becouse they are indestrucable. |
