Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

It all started out innocently enough. I had gotten the gas tank clamped in place last night and ran the fuel line to the engine, so I woke up this morning thinking I would put the bed together and set it on the frame so I could come up with an idea on where to put the fuel filler and route the filler hose. I did, and two hours later I had it on and squared up. What a pain!!

After staring at it for awhile, Mama came into the shop and announced that she wanted to work on her Harley. So I did some cleaning to give her a spot to work, and she proceded to replace the front drive sproket on her bike. While I sat there watching her, and drinking a beer, I said something like "Man, I can't wait to get the cab on so it starts to look like a truck again." She replies "well, do it."

So I grabbed some steel and built a jig for the engine hoist to lift the cab and set it on the frame. MAN, was I excited to see that!!

Next thing I know, I was setting the core support in place. Then I managed to get to the fenders out of the shed, so I bolted them on. I tried the original grill too, but it didn't fit. So I dug out the grill I bought from Randy (teeitup) a year or so ago, and it fit great! Now, it just looked wrong, sitting there without the hood on, so on it went!!

Damn I'm tired, but the "hot rod truck" (as my 6 y/o son calls it) actually looks like a truck again after being in pieces since Mothers Day of 2004! And now it's a short bed too boot!! I am sooooooo freaking excited!!!! Now, I know that it has to come apart again, but I now know that all the Goodmark pieces fit great. I only have a couple of places that need minor work, like a place on the passenger door to make the gap right, but it is all minor stuff. I am not sure I like the cowl hood after all, so I might be looking for another stock 67-68 hood down the road.

But for now, I can drool over this. But first, I'm going to bed. I'm tired!!!

Thanks dude. Actually I did! I found them both in the bed of the GMC. And I found the short harness that belongs to that steering column too.

Thanks Andy! It wasn't until about 8:30 that the wife reminded me that we haven't ate anything since about 7:30 this morning. It was at that exact moment that I got REAAAAALY hungry!

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

Can't really say for sure. Maybe when it is all one color I will like it better. It just looks "odd", since I am not use to looking at it. I am still use to a flat hood.

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

That truck looks great glock! Wow! I have a question about the cowl hood... They sure look cool, but what keeps the snow and rain from entering the opening at the back? I've seen the original cowl induction hoods on the chevelles and know they have the flapper door that only opens @ W.O.T.

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

Thanks guys! The hood is kinda growing on me as I keep looking at it. I guess it was just kind of a shock since I am use to the flat hoods.

Sweet72 - The opening is covered by a piece of perforated steel. Should keep big stuff from getting in, but then again, this most likely won't see rain (if I can help is) and definately won't see snow.

Ron 586 - That was my deal with her when I bought it for her. If I buy if, she has to work on it! I told her my Yamaha would disown me if it saw me working on a Harley, since I never have to touch mine, it might get jealous!

LUV2XCLR8, 70c10, and BOSS - Maybe I should send some pics to Goodmark, huh? Yeah, all the black parts are from Goodmark. That said, the only original metal is the cab, cowl, and grill.

That's a fine, fine looking beast. I generally don't like the cowl hood on a LWB, but it looks great on your SWB!
