Vin Number

Can someone decode to number for me.

CS1570CPC4690A

Can you tell by the number if the bed is a stepside or fleetside?

Thanks,
Drew

Re: Vin Number

Would that be a 71 GMC?
That VIN is somewhat close to the VIN combo for a 69, which is the only decoder I have. If it decodes like a 69, and we remove the 70 from the 5 & 6 position (which I think would be the cowl to axle measurement) then it would indicate that it is an inline powered 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton, stepside, no clue what plant P would indicate, and the rest would be sequential number... althoguh, that A on the end is an odd one to me... but GMC did some odd ball stuff with there VONs back then.
Rod would be the man to see on this one.

Rod... am I close?

Re: Vin Number

Oh well...no other takers so I'll do it.

CS1570CPC4690A
C = Conventional cab
S = Six cyl
1 = 1/2 ton
57 = cab to rear axle dimension of 42 inches
0C = Step side box
P= pontiac Assembly Plant
C = 1967
4690 = sequence number
A = is GVW range 6000 and less
It's a 6 cyl 1967 GMC short box step side, by whats posted

CE1570DPC2842A
C = Conventional cab
E = Eight cyl
1 = 1/2 ton
57 = cab to rear axle dimension of 42 inches
0D = Wide side box
P= pontiac Assembly Plant
C = 1967
2842 = sequence number
A = is GVW range 6000 and less
It's a 8 cyl 1967 GMC short box fleetside, by whats posted

That's why there is difficulty making a GMC Vin decoder, different plants did the vins differently.

Re: Vin Number

Wow... I was way off.
I didn't even notice that the 2nd one wasn't the same as the first one.

Re: Vin Number

CE134BZ55276

C= Conventional
E= eight cyl
1 = 1/2 ton
34= wide side box
B = Baltimore assembly plant
Z = 1970 model year
rest is sequence number

It's a 70 GMC 8 cyl 1/2 ton fleetside box.
With this style vin typical to 70 and 71 GMC vins you can't tell the wheel base. That would be identified throught the model number on the glove box sticker. And for those following along....a 71 would have a number 1 instead of the letter Z in this style common to 70-71 GMC vins.
