Bittersweet Day in Athens, AL
READ THIS!!! I know it's a lot and I typically ignore long and boring threads, but I can be made fun of for this
Well, the day started out nice. Been working on the truck for the past two weeks trying to get it ready to go to this show. It's over 1200 cars and it's a real nice show. Got the serpentine system up and running and installed the Taurus electric fan(actually Igotachevyor2 did most of the work, if not all). It's about 135 miles from my house, just over the AL line. Got there in 2 hours and the truck ran great. Got a little hot for my taste, but never climbed over 205 degrees. Saw a lot of nice cars and trucks(see below) and of course got to hang out with one of the coolest board members of all time, a few 72s and his better half, Deb. Well, on the way back the temp gauge got around 210-215 degrees. Of course it's a hotter time in the day (4 pm) so I understood. My wonderful wife went with me and we're just south of Nashville, maybe a mile from the city limits when she looks over and says, "look at your temp gauge!" It read 240 degrees, so I about sideswipe a car next to me to get off the interstate. I get out and pop the hood and dried radiator fluid is pretty much on everything on the passenger side of the motor. My electric fan is not running, the fuse in the fusible link is blown, and the fan will not move freely at all. One of the little ziptie things that hold the fan on is gone completely and one of them is sizzling. So it looks like my radiator sprang a leak right at one of those ziptie things. I let it cool down a little and drive another mile to get off I-65. Called my GREAT Hagerty roadside assistance and they towed it for free, since I was only 38 miles from my house. The funny thing was I brought a bunch of stuff to the show to sell. Two things in particular that didn't sell I will NOW be needing. I will be keeping my fan shroud and my reverse rotation fan that chickenwing sent me. Some, if not all, of this is my fault. I still have the old 2 row radiator in the truck because it was originally a 6 cyl. I was going to change it out before the show, but didn't have the funds. This line is for cableguy-I know, you told me it was going to happen!!! Here are some pics from the show, I took a pic of EVERY 67-72 that was there, besides my POS. I meant to get a pic of it on the wrecker, but didn't get a chance.

Re: Bittersweet Day in Athens, AL
These last three I took for the odd choice of motor that the owner chose

Re: Bittersweet Day in Athens, AL
I liked that one too. My wife said she hates the new bed and I had to agree to a point, but I thought that color made it a little more acceptable.

Re: Bittersweet Day in Athens, AL
nah the bed would have to go, no matter what color. lol. Not bashing the owner though, the truck looks very nice. I just like the way the paint looks on it. For whatever reason I have a soft spot for yellow on old vehicles and that yellow looks awesome.

Re: Bittersweet Day in Athens, AL
Man I thought the Seattle/Tacoma/Classic Heartbeat area had a lot of nice trucks but that show was awesome. Don't recall seeing side molding on a stepside before - red 67 big window. My love of 67/68's is even stronger than before. 69 to 72 are great but give me a 67/68 anyday.
Sorry about the radiator but glad you got her home. More mods at the next show. Keep it up - Bob

Wow, I wish i would've known this. I would've driven out there. Where abouts in athens was it?
Do you have any more information on the first truck in the second set? I saw this truck on HWY 72 heading towards athens the other day and loved it. |

Re: Bittersweet Day in Athens, AL
If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all....gloom, despair and agony on me!!.... whoops I was just humming that Ol Hee Haw tune.......I don't know why..... Bryan that's how you find out whats wrong with one, you get behind the wheel and drive. Sorry to hear it laid down on you but I am sure you will have it going again in short order. The electric fan route is great when they work like they should. Of course when they don't, well..... Anyhow your pics turned out great and it looks like it was a great show.

Re: Bittersweet Day in Athens, AL
It was a great show and a lot of nice vehicles, not just our trucks. But who are we kidding those are the best ones around. No big deal on all the problems I had. My wife said I took it pretty well, usually I would have went ballistic and pulled out the glock and fired a round into the motor. Just kidding, but not really! If I would have sold my fan shroud and reverse fan I think I would have been real pissed, but since I'm only out an $11 elec fan and have to upgrade to a 4 core radiator that I was going to do anyway after this show I'm not that mad. I feel bad for wasting Igotachevyor2's(Brandon)time last Sunday when he came over and wired the fan up. Thanks for all the comments. I wanted to get some of you Miss guys to come up, but I know it's a longer drive than it appears. Especially for you Bill!!
Wake-No I don't know anythingelse about that truck. The owner wasn't around it.
