Question Folding vs Non/folding Seat

Why do some trucks come with a folding front seat and others have a solid non-folding seat? My ' 71 Chevy 4x4 has a solid non/folding and my brother-in-laws ' 68 GMC had a folding seat. Is the differance between Chevy/GMC or differant years or what? Can a non/folding seat be made into a folding type? Curious as I no longer have the tank behind the seat and would like the behind the seat space to be easily accessed for storage.

I had a '67 that folded (although not sure if it was original) and now have a '70 that does not (again, not sure if original). From what I've heard, it sounds like they came both ways (randomly). Not an option, but maybe they just used whichever they had available when they built the truck!

Someone correct me if this isn't the case (don't want to stear anyone wrong!).

From what I have seen on here, the trucks without the upgraded seats are likely to have them, and I have yet to see any upgraded seats that do have them since the way the vinal covers where the hinge would be and tear up if you flipped it.
But this is just observatioins, possibly not true though.

67 and 68 had folding benchs. 69-72 were fixed.

I have my original 67 bench that folds, it is tan vinyl. I will sell if interested. I now have a 67 bucket set up with the middle fold down third seat. Still am running with the folding bench, and am picking up the buckets this friday.

seats

well, I have a 70 and a 71 and one seat flips forward and the other doesnt. Not sure as to why, havent looked at the covers on them, but if you remove the center screw on both sides of the metal rail attatching the bottom and back of the seat(bench) together it will tilt.

Hey horse! You about done with that truck? I gave a folding seat to the guy that painted my truck (I was using it in my truck while my original seat was being re-done), and he might still have it laying around. If you are interested, let me know, and I'll give him a call and see if he still has it. Lookin' forward to seeing your truck, and maybe even taking the drive up to see Yukon and Blazerboy. Cya, LB.

I parted out a 68 6cyl 3 spd. truck with folding bench. Only truck I'd ever seen with one. Also only truck older than 69 i've owned.
