Re: 454 power
it depends. a stock mid 70s pickup 454 like mine made 245HP. You have to remember, this is a smog era engine, so its a small valve low comression engine. mine is a stock 7.8:1 bottom end, small crane cam( dont remember the specs without digging em up, stock heads, shorty headers, Performer ARPM intake 770 Holley. Mines probebly now around 325 HP.
If your 454 started out as an LS5, well than in stock form it was as I recall 350 HP, it would already have good heads, intake, cam etc.

Re: 454 power
if your 454 made only 245 i'd be pissed!!! my 350 (rv cam, 5.5:1 compression pistons, mild head work /w/ stocker carb, ed. intake) is said to make 300.. give or take...

454 245HP @ 4000 RPMs 350 ft.lbs @2400 RPMS 350 155HP @ 3800 RPMs 245 ft. lbs. @ 2400 RPMs So assuming your #s are accurate ( your compression is clearly a typo) & assuming your 350 is a run of the mill smog head ,low compression engine, That means you basically doubled your power by adding a rv cam, mild head work & an intake. seems like a bit of a stretch to me. Remember , the 454 of the 70s trucks didnt leave the factory for big horsepower..look @ the torque.

Re: 454 power
Not for nothing, I'm finishing a 454 that a race builder had started (buddy of mine) It came out of a 73 El Camino SS - it's not stock inside (crank, rods, Keith Black Pistons, shaved heads, 60 over) etc... he gave me the rest of the build sheet he was intending for it (I just need to drop a few more clams to obtain the rest of the parts) - he had it spec'd out to make 500 at the crank..... I won't know how accurate his design is until it's done. He has quite a few trophys and pics of cars he's done so he might be close....??? There is a thread in here somewhere from last year that has all my specs in it... again, for what it's worth... Can't wait to get it finished, I want to hear it run!
