Help! What is this piece from my steering assembly??

I had to take apart my steering assembly to replace the:

lock cylinder
turn signal piece that the horn wire attaches to
turn signal/cruise piece

I had some things pop off when taking it apart and have figured out where everything goes except this piece that I have in the pic.

What is it and where does it go??

Thanks!! Btw, it's an '89 Suburban. I've got it halfway in my garage to work on it, so I have to fix it soon... (it won't fit all the way in).

Do not know. But if everthing works I would not worry too much about it. I think it has something to do with the turn signal but not sure.

Re: Help! What is this piece from my steering assembly??

That piece exploded from my column the last time I took it apart. I'm racking my brain trying to remember where it goes. I'm pretty sure it is part of the tumbler (key switch thingy).

Re: Help! What is this piece from my steering assembly??

I saved a write-up on my computer about tightening up a loose column, but I can't remember where I got it from... The link is probably on this site or CK5. Anyhow, it has this picture that says it goes on the turn-signal contacts, and it only fits one way. Hope this helps!

EDIT: Found the link- http://buickperformance.com/tiltstee...lumnwobble.htm

Re: Help! What is this piece from my steering assembly??

hmmmmm, well guys, I put it all back together and it seems to work... without that dumb piece... Karma, I hope that's not bad karma... are you saying it should attach to that other piece for the turn signal?? I don't think it popped out of there for me... If you look at my piece it looks different.

again, it seems to work so far for me, but I'm worried that piece is important...

what do you guys think???

Re: Help! What is this piece from my steering assembly??

Does this help?

I have a couple of others, but I think they all look basically the same.

Slonaker

EDIT: Nope, I think I am showing the wrong piece. I just found a pic of the piece that looks like yours laying in a random spot where I found it. I don't remember where it came from.

EDIT2: Is this it, hanging off the side inthis photo?

Re: Help! What is this piece from my steering assembly??

Look at the right side of the pic I posted from Chevy Asylum (I may have added it while you were viewing the post). Is that it? I know I found mine laying on the column right below that, because I took a pic of where it landed on the column after it exploded.

Slonaker

EDIT: In looking at the photo again, I think that is it...

Slonaker, I still don't see the clip that I have in the pic... can you edit it w/ Microsoft paint to point to what you're talking about?? I already have the two metal pieces in the pic that I can see in place.

thanks for the help!

That clip goes on the plastic "Key Buzzer" to hold it in place. If I knew how to post a pic I could show you about 50 of them.

I'm still mad at myself for not figuring out where it went... I had 3 parts fall out... I figured out 2, but this one stumped me...

Re: Help! What is this piece from my steering assembly??

just FYI, my buzzer doesn't work when the key is in there... BUT, I think I like it... especially when working on the car a lot... I'm not sure that it worked before though now that I think about it... I think you had to jiggle the key to get it to buzz...
