right hand drive blazer
Hey everyone I was working on my blazer's cowl piece (doing some custom work) and I seen that there was an extra hole on the passenger side where a wiper arm would go it looked obvious that it was there for that purpose and I wondered what it was there for if not for a european set up. Does anyone know? Or do you know the purpose for this hole?

Re: right hand drive blazer
With the gauge panel and the glovebox door being the same size and shape I think GM just covered their bets, making it fairly straight forward to make right hand drive w/o a lot of retooling.

Re: right hand drive blazer
The Factory Assembly Manuals show how they made the right hand drive out of the standard truck. There are a lot of clues to them trying to make it modular.

Re: right hand drive blazer
Wonder if the mailman back in those days ever used a right-hand-drive mail truck (blazer)???

Re: right hand drive blazer
The Post Office probably only used jeeps...
I worked at the USPS for 2 years and those jeeps were POS. The newer postal vehicles are/were built on s-10 frames if I'm not mistaken. They are 4 bangers with power brakes and power steering and that's it. |

Re: right hand drive blazer
About a year ago I found a right hand drive international scout stashed in a salvage yard. I thought maybe it was for postal use, but it wasn't a stripped down model. I've been wondering if it's still stashed. Were there companys that specialized in right hand drive conversions? I never seen a RHD blazer, wouldn't be a %^$# to do the steering box, column, pedals, heater and trans linkage.

Wouldn`t THAT be cool to do to a show truck. You couldn`t get a shot without a bunch of heads stuffed in the windows all the time.

Re: right hand drive blazer
I've thought about building a sand rail type buggy with dual controls to teach my boys to drive in. It would be dead simple.

Re: right hand drive blazer
Here in Japan, they make a right side steering Blazer. It is the newer model (2000 and up), four door, and is the S10 series. The full size Blazers, Burbs, and Camaros are imported, and are left hand steering. Ford also has a right hand steering, Explorer and Taurus wagon here. I went camping last weekend and was driving through a small town in the middle of nowhere and stopped at a convenience store, I parked next to a fully restored 72 3/4 ton 4x4. It was left hand steering. From what I got out of the owner, with my limited Japanese, his father had it imported here new in 72. It had been wrecked and he had made a heavy duty pipe bumper and had fabricated a pretty slick tailgate for it using the wrecked pieces. I am hoping to go back at the end of September and show him my 72 Blazer. I will try to get some pics. Besides mine, this was the oldest Chevy truck that I have seen here. All of the other older Chevrolets (85 and newer) that I have seen here are U.S. specs. I did see an old Chevrolet car, late 40's maybe, going down the hiway and it was also left hand steering.
