newbie question on VIN
so, i'm looking at a '52 chevy pickup that has been kinda street rodded sometime in the past. it has a nova subframe welded in, sits low and looks fairly good. looks like alot of interior work for me to do, but the 350/350 turbo have both been rebuilt and run well. power steering, but not power brakes.
my question regards VINs for these trucks. i see the tag on the drivers side door jamb. what would a typical VIN look like on a 1953 chevy pickup. i forget the numbers at the moment, but i was struck by how few digits there were. thanks in advance |

Re: newbie question on VIN
Welcome to the fourm.
That is the correct place for the vin. If I remember correctly the rivets that hold it on should be star shaped. At least that is the way it is on the 56. Post a pic if you can and I'm sure someone here will chime in. Denny |

Re: newbie question on VIN
didn't have a chance to get a picture. this is a '52 chevy pickup, and i only glanced at the VIN. but it seemed kinda short to me .... only 6 or 7 digits. that seem right? alphanumeric digits.
that's kinda the info that i'm after ..... how many digits is in a '50's era chevy truck VIN ? thanks |

Re: newbie question on VIN
Thats correct. These truck were actually titled based on the engine number which was longer. The number/letters on the "vin plate" just tell you where truck was made, the year, rating of vehicle 1/2, 3/4... Try this

Re: newbie question on VIN
thanks for the link. i'll pick this truck up this coming weekend. it needs alot of interior work. my plan of attack will be cleaning everything, documenting everything, and replacing rear brake shoes, drums and cylinders. then i plan to clean up the electrical system and install seat belts. after that will come interior work and some exterior work. should be interesting.
i enjoyed the link to your '52. so many ideas, so little $$$. thanks. bill |

Re: newbie question on VIN
For my 1953 the VIN starts with a K then 53 then a 3 and then a K then six more numbers. The 5-window cab I am using came off a 3/4 ton and was the only tag I had from the two trucks that made this one. The truck is titled with the VIN number. Just to let you know my 53 has 10 alphanumeric digits in the VIN.
Have fun with your new truck.
