Carb Rebuilders?
Didnt know if this should go in the parts forum or not...
Im thinking of getting a new rebuilt carb and didnt know if the forum had any real good carb rebuilders? I have a 2bb now and Im kicking around the idea of switching to a quadrajet.

http://www.carbspec.com/index.htm
I recently bought a rochester 2bbl from these guys remanufactured. Only been on about a month, but so far, so good. They are local for me, but they do offer shipping. |

Re: Carb Rebuilders?
I'd always heard the horror stories about guys having to go through 6 rebuilt carbs until they finally got a good one. First rebuilt Q-jet I bought from Advance Auto Parts worked fine. I either got very lucky, or they've stepped up quality control.

Re: Carb Rebuilders?
Rebuilt Holley's are what you want to watch out for. Metering blocks get worped and bolts get stretched. Also, they are still sand casted carburetors so there is always a chance that there could be a small burr somewhere which makes it easier to clog. I've had a couple that I have rebuilt and they worked but I could never get them tuned as fine as I wanted. They also seemed to need constant tuning.
Running a Barry Grant speed demon with 4 corner idle adjustment, billet metering blocks and a billet base plate. Much more tunable. Have not had one problem with it. Rebuilt Q-jets if they're done right can perform great w/o any problems. Good luck. |
