1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
My 1967 C20 with a 327 has a spin on type oil filter. I think it is a conversion from the original can type filter but I am not sure. I purchased a Wix brand filter from NAPA that was supposed to fit. After the oil change, oil is leaking from around the filter. I noticed that the old filter was different than the new but did not think much of it when installing it.
Now the old filter has been taken away by the trash people and I do not know what the number was. Does anyone have a filter part number that works for the 327s? I prefer Fram but I should be able to convert any brand. Thanks, Paul |

Sorry can't help you with the Fram #, but my '68 307 which was converted from cartridge, to spin on on has a Purolator L20049 on it.

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
The kits I have seen use either the common Chevy filter or some use a F*rd filter, the common older v8 F*rd filters. I think the Wix # for a F*rd V8 is 1515 ???

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
Don't know if this will help or not, but for the older 350's the Fram number is PH5, I don't see why a 327 would be different?

I have a 327 (not sure what year it was from) in my truck and I am 98% sure that I have a PH5 oil filter on it.

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
a 1060 NAPA filter fits normal old school small blocks, if there is an adapter involved, there's no tellin.
However, putting a fram filter on there is the absolute worst you can do in oil filter selection. They put money into adgertising instead oif filtering media. There andi drain back valve is junk (doesn't matter on these engines though) but the filtering media is not nearly enough. I'm not saying that your engine will blow up if you spin one on there, BUT, I am pointing out that most of the automakers (including ALL of the big 3) had charges filed against them by Fram. They all knew what junk fram was putting out, and were turning away waranty work for blown engines stating a junk oil filter. (only brand filter that they were doing this to) And, I'll also say, if you were to call ANY indipendant oil lab anywhere in the US, they'll agree with everything I just typed. Fram sucks. |

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
instead of tryin to matchup oil filters it maybe cheaper and take less time to just buy a new adapter with the proper filter// any auto parts store should have them in stock i prefer NAPA OR CARQUEST for these types of items

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
I seem to remember the Fram spin on was PH8-A . Napa gave me a 1061 for my 350. It's the wix equivalent. I gotta believe your adapter is bad or the filter was over tightened.

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
The adaptor I had on my old SB chev used the "one size fit all Fords" back in the 60's and 70's. If memory serves me correctly, the Ford # was the FL-1A with the old numbering system. The Silver Napa filter is the 21515 aka 1515.

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
Thanks for the information. I will look into the Ford Filter. I also found a new adapter and filter at LMC. It is less then $20.00 so it may be worth it. I tried a few other suppliers but can not find one anywhere else. I hate to order from them since I have not heard many good things about their service but it is always fun to gamble right?
I have also heard negative things about Fram. I still need to cut one open and look inside. I work for GM and have been involved in developing field fixes. 20 years ago, GM recommended Fram since their filter helped cold start knock. Now I have heard that they got really cheap and are the worst. I may try and cut up a few filters myself and compare the media to see if there really is a difference. With global sourcing do we really know who makes what part and where they are made? I shy away from Delco since one may be made in US and the "identical" one next to it is made in China. They are the same but different. When I get around to my experiment, I will try and take pictures for all to see. Paul |

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
Before I knew about fram being junk, i ran a PH13.
A great filter to use is the Napa gold. They are made by WIX, and are not seconds or anything, they are simply rebadged (as is lots of NAPA stuff). It is pretty much the best for the money. |

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
Same with the premium Carquest filters. They say "made in the USA by Wix" a couple different places on the box.

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
IIRC, the Wix filters for a SBC are 51060 with drainback valve, and 51061 without a drainback valve. But its been awhile since I've bought one. I always by Wix filters for my vehicles, although for whatever reason they have been black for a year or so now...
No NAPA's around here so no NAPA parts.

Re: 1967 327 Spin on Oil Filter number?
All it took for me to kick the fram habit, was to hold a fram in one hand, and a purolator in the other. The fram felt like a empty tin can, while the purolator felt solid, and weighed a good bit more.
