Re: how to identify a dana 44 rear end help
not a d44, maybe a d60 in the rear but there was never a d44 8 lug rear.
on the bottom right casting web it will have a dxx cast into it. the fact that the drums remove over the hub is d60, eatons you need to remove the hub to get to the drum guts. Last edited by trkklr77; 09-11-2006 at 10:52 PM. |

Re: how to identify a dana 44 rear end help
Dana's have the number cast in them near the pumpkin, so it'll have a 60, cause like stated above 44 where not 8 luggers. The 44 would look just like the front diff on a 1/2 ton 4X4.

They put D44's in the front of 3/4 ton trucks too. They would be 8 lug.

The dana 44 axle was the small block chevy of axles, they put them in EVERYTHING & as such there are a LOT of different configurations. To the point of this post, it is likely, as trkklr77 said, that this rear axle is a Dana 60, as that was a pretty popular application for GM when these trucks were being made. If you posted up a picture of the differential cover, it'll give us a pretty good idea of what it is as well. But I do agree with trkklr77, it seems to be a Dana 60. Later, Buddy
