My progress
Well I have about 5 years invested and can finally see some closure *LMAO*. I have also converted the rear to five lug and have a posi that I am still setting up. Notice the BB chevy mounts. I have a 400 BB pontiac to go there. I just posted this because I needed a pat on the back *L*. I will begin reassembling the front end this weekend, and hopfully paint the firewall area soon. How do most people do that part. I know what color I want the exterior to be, But I dont want to paint the firewall and have it sit up until I get the rest of the work done. Is it better to paint it all at once and then install the engine? anyone have a pic of how a 2.5/3 f/r drop looks after being completely done engine interior etc? I want to see if I need to go lower or will it fall into place?

Re: My progress
Raphyel,
nice work!! I love it when a good plan comes together! The question of when to paint the firewall is a good one. I'm at that point myself. Maybe some of the pro's on this forum can give us some advice. I was thinking of painting the interior of the cab & the inside & jambs of the doors first, then doing the cab door jambs, firewall, cowl, and any part of the cab that's covered by body panels. Then hang & fit all the body panels, hood, fenders, doors, cowl & corners. Shoot a sealer on the whole truck then base coat & clear. After that sets up, disassemble everything and install the motor, tranny, electrical etc. and re-fit all the body panels permanently. I still haven't figured out how I'm going to do the back of the cab between the bed and still shoot the whole truck as one assembly. I guess I could do that first with the bed pulled away and put the pieces together again when I go to paint the sides.

Re: My progress
I dont know if assembling then painting then disassembling is god idea. I am not a pro by any means, but there is a lot of room for error as far as scratcthing something when disassembing or reassembling. Maybe someone else can give some advice.

Re: My progress
excellent job nict to see you go through it right you will be happy you spent that much time on it when it is done.
i am no expert but i would shoot the entire cab so it is finished then assemble the jammed parts back on then tape off the finised part of the cab that shows then do your final paint when you are assembled. |

Re: My progress
That is a nice setup. How do you get tires on it? *LOL* do you have to jack up the frame? I finally got mine to 5 lug all around and with the new tires *THEY ACTUALLY HOLD AIR LONGER THAN A WEEK* I have to either lift the bed a bit or jack up the frame to remove them.
