Transfer Case Questions
I have a 72 K10 with a 205 transfer case. Got a couple of questions. I was advised to remove the bolts from the frame rail to the side of the transfer case. They said I could break the case if I didn't. What do you guys think? Other question: The rubber cushions on the t.c. side mount are worn out. Probably died of old age! Where do you find them? I don't seem to see them in the run of the mill resto catalogs. I don't mud bog or anything like that. I just drive my truck to work, pull my travel trailer and drive slowly in the woods during hunting season. No real high speed rough stuff. Thanks

Re: Transfer Case Questions
Keep the frame mount, it is there to keep you from breaking the transmission housing. LMC (among others) carries the new cushions for the frame mount.

Re: Transfer Case Questions
Got the parts ordered just now. Never could find them on the other truck part sights I use. Thanks for the advice, I didn't think pulling the bolts would be the right thing to do.

Re: Transfer Case Questions
It seems that after '72, it was hit-or-miss if a NP205 truck got the bracket to the frame. I've heard of a few guys with no bracket breaking the adapter between the transmission and transfer case, and even the bellhousing.

Re: Transfer Case Questions
if you actually wheel it you will wind up like me and restin gthe entire trucks weight on the tcase, keep it. the only situation i can think of was if you like to twist your truck up 90* all frame flex.

Re: Transfer Case Questions
My truck didn't have one on it. Maybe I should make one?

Re: Transfer Case Questions
It is not as much of an issue with a 465 (manual tranny) as it is with an automatic because you have a very stout cast iron bell housing, tranny and t-case adapter - nothing there that will break real easily like a die cast automatic tranny housing.
