Painting these trucks...

How much would you say it takes to paint one of these trucks? Not looking for any exact numbers, just a rough ballpark.

Re: Painting these trucks...

That # could change depending on what quality of finish you are looking for. Color sanded and buffed, if you go single stage, base/clear, three stage. Also if you get everything painted. Like inner fenders, radiator support, and so on. Hopefully someone here could hook you up with some #'s but everything varies. Good luck!

Re: Painting these trucks...

The paint I purchased for my 71 SWB cost the following:

-1 Gal etching primer : $115
-1 gal etching reducer: $65
-1 gal blue urethane primer surfacer: $130
-2 qt sufacer hardener: $100
-1 gal sealer converter: $130
-1 gal blue pearl base: $400
-1 gal urethane clear: $145
-2 qt clear hardener: $65
-1 gal catalized basecoat reducer: $75
-1 gal reducer for primer and clear: $35

so about $1250 for all the stuff I will need with the exception of a bunch of sand paper, making tape, masking paper, and tack cloths...

oh and that is all martin senour product

Re: Painting these trucks...

CMars has a pretty decent estimate..........Although for some reason his clear coat and base paint seem to be a bit more expensive than the S-W products that my dad prefers to use.

Looks like a large outlay, but using good products up front, and then cleanings/waxings as time goes on, the paint job will last a long time and save money in the end.

Well it all depends on what product is being used. Sherwin and Martin Senour are the EXACT same thing... And there are about 8 different levels of clear on each line... I agree the using top notch product is worth it in the end with paint....

YOu can cut out using a sealer on alot of the new 2k urethane primer surfacers but I am a big fan of sealer for lots of reasons so I keep the step, although it is not 100% neccesary...

I don't think that can even be answered here. No body man is gonna give you an estimate without seeing the truck. Depends on the body shop, the quality you are looking for and how much is gonna have to be fix if you want it done right. Best thing is gonna be to talk around to body shops and try to get exactly what they are gonna do and for how much.

Re: Painting these trucks...

After reading what I posted it seems I was half asleep. What I was really trying to ask is the average amount of paint such as 1/2gal or 1 gal. Wasn't really looking for dollar amount. If this makes sense?

Re: Painting these trucks...

Should be able to do the exterior in about 2 gallons sprayable EASY... most paints are reduced 1:1 so that is a gallon of actual color and a gallon of reducer...

I got a little extra b/c I will be doing the inside of the front fenders and the inside of the hood and the inside of the cab and the dash all to match the body color...
