Shortbed value? (bed only)
I need a short fleetside bed, so I put a WTB ad on Craigs list. I get an e-mail from a person who has one-says it is in good shape and in pieces and no tailgate.
That is all I know for now except he wants $800. My question is are they worth that much? I know they are hard to come by and are pricey I just dont want to pay more then I have to. Thanks Jack |

Re: Shortbed value? (bed only)
They do get pricey but I would look around a little more. Hold out for one with a nice tail gate then it would be worth in my opinion ~$600 -$800
I bought a whole SB truck for $400 just for the bed and parted what was left of the rest of it, damn near made my $400 back Good luck and be patient

Re: Shortbed value? (bed only)
Ya, keep looking. I just picked up a 67 short fleet truck with decent bedsides and needs very little bodywork for $400. The wooden floor need new wood tho...

Re: Shortbed value? (bed only)
You could just buy a new box. From what I have seen you can buy new sides from vendors for about 400 to 500 dollars apiece, the front panels run about 100 to 150 bucks, tailgates run from about 100 to 400, the tubs run about 100 bucks apiece as for the floor you can either go with a wood floor or I have herd they are going to start making new steal floors.( what ever happened to the new steal bed floors anyway?) Finding good short fleets is getting hard. Or you can find a good long fleet and convert it to short fleet. I thought someone covered how to shorten the floor in a thread awhile back? That way you would only need the bed sides. just a thought.

Re: Shortbed value? (bed only)
I would be interested in a link on how to shorten a LWB bed floor, have the sides and the rest but can't afford a perfect SWB bed floor and don't want wood

Re: Shortbed value? (bed only)
ALL used parts prices vary/depend on "condition"! If that is a good bed it is well worth $800...if it is a really nice bed, with straight floor and sides and no rust...it is worth twice that price! It ALL depends on condition! What's a nice finished SWB truck worth?
I hate to see guys wait around for "great deals" on every part they need and then never get their trucks finished. Forget about finding a bed with TG. TGs are everywhere---SWB beds are NOT! Good luck with you short bed truck. P.S. Byrd I'll give you $600 for that beautiful floor!!! Last edited by PICKMUP; 10-08-2006 at 04:00 PM. |

Re: Shortbed value? (bed only)
if you can do body work and are willing to drive to vacaville you can have this one vvvvv. it has a plywood floor in it now but was originaly a metal floor. i am taking the axle and susp for my truck and will be throwing the rest away. the other side has more abuse on it but is repairable.

Re: Shortbed value? (bed only)
Just drive your long bed 68 down there and put the box on it to get it back. The guy I worked for had a 67 long bed ( parts truck) and had a 68-72 short step mounted on it, to keep the bed out of the mud. It was dorky looking but to me to get a box back just do it that way.

Re: Shortbed value? (bed only)
I knew free = rough but that looks like beyond my ability to repair so I will pass and let someone else have a chance at it.

Re: Shortbed value? (bed only)
Hell if I was near you I would take it, but california is a ways from oklahoma. Olden days just take it and get a new bedside to fix that side. At least that is what I would do.
