fresh air intakes?
i have noticed that the fresh air tubes on the new fuel injection engines have extra cavitys for air volumn built on the sides of them. what are these for? performance? economy? sound controll? it seems all the big factory motors have these and i would like to know what the benifit of these are. thanks, pkj

They're there to deaden the typical BWAAAAA sound you get when you gun it. Fuel injection motors make a lot more racket without 'em when you get on the gas. Most cars have them these days.

yep, noise control... and they ususlly slow the car down.... hardly measurable... but it does though.

Because they introduce distortion into the air flow, whereas smooth tubes allow for the smooth flow of air into the engine.
 But yeah, only good for a few horsepower.
