big block swap
Ok i know several people have done this swap... And yes i have done a search already.
But, my situation is a little different from others... In my '70 model 1/2 ton I have a 350 sbc and a 400 turbo... I have 78 model, 3/4 ton with a 454... my question is will the towers and springs from the 3/4 ton work on the 1/2 ton?

Re: big block swap
The towers will be a tad tall if I remember right, The springs, they'll fit, but IMO, they'd be too tall and stiff. Try your OE springs. It'll drop maybe an inch... nothing extreem.

Re: big block swap
My 69 is big block origional. Ive had a 350 in it & now the 396 is back in it again on the same towers. I didnt have to move the trans either way. Id say bolt the motor in & drive it.

Re: big block swap
You can use small block towers, but you'll be required to use headers, and you may not be able to use a factory shroud.

Re: big block swap
I had headers on both, Andy is probably right. Never even thought of that.

Re: big block swap
Use the 73-87 towers and mounts and the 70-72 big block shroud. I just put a 76 Chevy 454 in my 72 hauler using the 76 engine , turbo 400 transmission , mounts and trans crossmember. You'll need to position the stands like I show you in these photos and enlarge 2 or 3 of the holes but it's an easy swap. Factory manifolds and shroud are a direct bolt up. Email me at rsrxion@yahoo.com or call 479-263-3326 if you need more help. Dean
