Disc Brake Conversion
Does anybody know of a disc brake conversion kit for a 70' (just the front) that utilizes the stock drum brake spindles? I've seen it on Camaros and other GM vehicles.
Thanks

Re: Disc Brake Conversion
Yes there is or was a kit for it. It used a rotor that slid on the drum brake hub and had a bracket that held the caliper to the spindle. If you want more info it will take me alittle while to find more info. It was in one of the old truck magazines and I have lots of them! If You want the info let me know and I will see if I can find it for you.

Re: Disc Brake Conversion
Well I couldnt find the article so i started going through my catalogs. Brothers has the kit part # GRAB900 wich is there basic kit and sold for 269.95 for the basic kit. They have a deluxe kit NOFX559 priced at 474.95. It is the kit I described above. These part #'s and prices came from there 2000 catalog so you may want to check out there wab site and email them with any more questions.

Re: Disc Brake Conversion
I was told there wasn't a disc kit that worked with the drum spindles. I wanted drop spindles anyway, so it wasn't much of an issue. But it would be a nice option.

Re: Disc Brake Conversion
What the kit is is a rotor like on the 99- up chevys. What you do is take the hub and drum off, drill out the rivits that hold the drum on then the rotor slides on over the wheel studs. The kit has a bracket that mounts where the drum brake backing plate used to mount. So esentilly the procedure is
1: remove drum brake and hub assembaly 2: drill out rivets to seperate drum from hub 3: remove old backing plate 4: install new caliper mounting bracket 5: install drum brake hub 6: slide on rotor 7: install calipers everything else regarding brake lines is the same as doing a spindle swap. So just look up the old faqs for that info. Aaron |

Re: Disc Brake Conversion
one very important note about the classic performance kit is, it uses car rotors (in other words it converts your front end to a 5 lug 4 3/4" bolt pattern). so, then you either have to mix your rim bolt patterns or change your rear axles to 4 3/4" also, but that's another head ache. I've been through this and I ended up having to buy a disc brake conversion kit for the rear-end for a Chevelle. With it all behind me now, next time I'd just buy the new spindle kit.

Re: Disc Brake Conversion
Crazy Longhorn, chevy duty sells the same kit but I am with jooooooe on that kit who wants to have car patern front and truck pattern rear? The one I posted keeps the bolt patterns the same and in 6 lug to.

Re: Disc Brake Conversion

Re: Disc Brake Conversion
Would you have to change the master cylinder & proportioning valve?

Re: Disc Brake Conversion
Yes! The drum brake master cylinder and valve wont work for discs. Just get a 71-72 master cylinder and proportioning valve.
