Brake upgrades
What options do I have to upgrade my brakes. I have disks up front and rear drums.
What setups are out there that work well. The truck is pathetic, and will need to be able to stop much faster when its going much faster I'm just trying to figure out options: either aftermarket or oem scavenged off of other vehicles. |

Re: Brake upgrades
You can upgrade to a 3/4 ton or 1 ton brake booster (dual diaphragm). Or put discs on the rear (kit or scrounged).

I'm thinking discs on the rear. What vehicles could I use for that? I was thinking a 90s caprice/impala. What about the fronts? Would a later 3/4 ton have larger/more powerful brakes? thanks |

Re: Brake upgrades
2-3/4" wide rear drum brakes from a mid-'70's up truck are a direct bolt-on and are a cheap upgrade to our 2".

YEP.. 2 1/2" DRUM BRAKES FROM A NEWER TRUCK. YOU HAVE TO USE EVERYTHING BACK TO & INCLUDING THE BACKING PLATE. ALSO.. I'VE USED A FORD 9" REAR END OUT OF A 75 LINCOLN MKIV. THEY HAVE DISC. BRAKES & ARE THE SAME SIZE LUG PATTERN (5 ON 5) AS OUR OLD TRUCKS. JOHN
