What do you think
I just found a truck for sale and need some opinions. Its a 1982 GMC SWB Stepside in real good shape no rust that i could see, he says it has a new motor (350 with 30,000 miles)fairly new paint, truck has 130,000 miles. It drives good, doesnt pull interior is good. How much do you think truck is worth.

Re: What do you think
With a newer engine, newer paint, no rust and a decent interior?
Show me where I can find that for that price and I'll be right over as soon as I can to buy! Locally for me I wouldn't touch it if it were rusty, but for $1500 I wouldn't expect more than it to run and drive.

Re: What do you think
If my camera worked, i'd show you 2. an 85 and an 83 for sale in north florida/south alabama, back in the woods.
I came across them the day he posted this. I stopped and looked at them. I do't have any $, plus I have an 86 sso I don't need them. The 85 he was asking $1500, and the 83 I believe the same, about 20 miles down the same road. Both silverados. Interior was in fair-bad shape. Fair-bad would be a personal opinion, so would "good". They needed some paint, cause they were both a little faded, but no rust or major dents. Sometimes you just find stuff....keep your eyes peeled. Plus, in his post he said "How much do you think truck is worth" For an 82 gmc, I put down what I thought it was worth. A little low for some... Last edited by pcmcobra; 10-18-2006 at 04:04 PM. |

Re: What do you think
That wasn't a swipe at you - hope you didn't interpret it that way.
I wish I could find those deals around here! I it all depends on whats around you I guess. If new paint, engine and good interior means what I take it to mean and that is what you are looking for then the $3000 mark sound decent. Of course, I would think the value of something varies greatly in a persons eyes depending on whether they are looking for that item or just happen to stumble upon one?

I agree, you are absolutely right. Time and place have a lot to do with it. I wish I could have found them earlier, I paid a premium for my mint 86. Sometimes I think I could have held out, but the harder I looked, the less I found, and now, there are several I have seen for a good price. Not mint, but real good shape. But I am happy, because it is the truck I wanted, and did not want to settle for anything less. Good luck, and hope you find what you want. |

Re: What do you think
Round here they seem to be asking 2800-3500 for trucks similar to that. Although that seem high to me.

Re: What do you think
Up here, a shortbox automatically makes it worth 1500, stepper makes it worth even more...
I'm asking 2000 for my 77 stepper with a TBI 350, 700r4, reasonable interior, and rusty body. Have had a fair bit of interest as well!

Re: What do you think
go for it for 3k and let me be the first to tell you that all the dash pads crack on these it is one of those weak spots for these trucks and replacements can be pricey

Re: What do you think
That's about right if the truck really is solid. In Texas that means NO rust, up north a little rust is common.

Re: What do you think
There is on on craigslist here in phoenix, 76 though and he's asking 3500, so I beleive that 2500 to 3500 is in the ballpark.

Re: What do you think
Sweet truck! It keeps making my mind up about fixing the body on mine. She's got a little rust on a rear door bottom, tailgate bottom, and one part of a lower quarter. The wheelhouses are an easy bolt-in, but I'm gonna farm out any body work.
I've done enough body repair over the years to know that I'm a bit of a hack. But, I can get a lot of work done for a lot less than a new truck! Go for it! []
