Re: gmc rear springs
Not always, I have had a couple of 1/2 tons that have had leafs. Guess it was the way it was ordered from the factory or load options

Re: gmc rear springs
1/2 ton chevys had standard coils with optional leaf, while all 1/2 ton GMC's came standard with leaf. This is true for 72, not sure about other years

Re: gmc rear springs
gmc had leafs generally... in 69 they had coils standard... not sure if there were any other years like that or not.

Re: gmc rear springs
I had a '69 GMC back in high school, it had leafs. It was also a custom cab, had upper, lower & trim around the bottom of the cab roof. It had ps pb ac tilt tach 3.73 posi turbo 400 and a 250 inline 6!!! think somebody checked off the wrong engine on the order sheet!!!

Re: gmc rear springs
I have both a '68 GMC and a '68 Chev; both 1/2 ton. The GMC had the normal leaf springs, the C-10 was factory equiped with a leaf-spring Posi. Nice option but an option none-the-less. I thought all GMC's had leaf springs and don't know if they even offered a coil spring rearend.

Re: gmc rear springs
This original 69 GMC had factory leafs in the rear......and boy......they were stout!!!! The last time I had a home renovation project I filled the bed with old wall plaster and lathe. It then rained over night. When I got to the dump I knew I was heavy (low tires) so I went through the scales. The rear had little to no sag at all and the weight of the truck was 9200 pounds. Thats over 5000 pounds of material and almost no sag!!!!
Try that with a coil spring and see what happens. |

Re: gmc rear springs
I wish......it was sweet oroginal ride!!!!
A punk on 75N at Cartersville was racing around in the rain and lost controll and hit me. When it was all done I hit the back of a guardrail going backwards doing 60+mph. There was nothing but mangled metal left. Suspention wast trashed, entire body was trashed and I think about all that was good was the engine. It was a VERY sad day!!! |
